First prototype
A surfboard, a foil, an electric motor and a wired remote. The first prototypes grew out of one conviction: recapture the feeling of the ride, whatever the conditions.
2018
Paris Boat Show
The first PWRFOIL model is unveiled to the public. Instant success, with nearly 80 units ordered.
2023
World record
66 km/h: the fastest speed ever reached by an electric foil on water. Record set by Zéphyr Defrance on the all-new PWRFOIL PRO, on the Seine in Paris.
2024
New workshop
Production ramps up and deliveries expand worldwide. PWRFOIL moves into 1,400 m² of facilities in Canet-en-Roussillon, France, with direct access to the sea.

PWRFOIL x La Soie Neyme
PWRFOIL keeps growing and consolidates its production by joining La Soie, the industrial group and board manufacturer. Carbon and fibreglass board production is relocated to the European zone.
2025
Groupe Bénéteau partnership
This strategic partnership opens up the sales and service network of the world’s second-largest boating group, and drives the joint development of electric foils across the entire network.
2026
Partnership with the French Presidency
PWRFOIL unveils the Élysée, a one-of-a-kind eFoil in the colours of the French Presidency. A unique piece, designed and built in the Canet-en-Roussillon workshops.

A lifetime of board sports
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Christophe Defrance spent 40 years in board sports. Paddle, skate and windsurf in summer, snowboard in winter: since his teens, he has chased speed and the perfect line, season after season.
From skateboard to paddleboard
After running the skateboard brand Vegas, Chris founded Redwoodpaddle in 2008, born from years of intensive paddleboarding around the world. RWP quickly became Europe’s number one in inflatable paddleboard sales.
The birth of PWRFOIL
In 2016, he took on the electric foil with one conviction: recapture the feeling of the ride without relying on wind or swell. Two years of prototypes later, the first PWRFOIL was born.

Manufacturing mastered end to end
Board, foil and electronics are produced in-house within the La Soie industrial group. Our team follows every step, from the first component to final assembly in our Canet-en-Roussillon workshop, with direct access to the sea. The result: a PWRFOIL ready for your first session. Nothing to adjust, nothing to figure out.
Reliable, robust technology
Mast, motor and drive system are designed as one by our engineering team. Anodised aluminium, a wear-free brushless motor cooled through the mast, a PWRCELL® battery built for marine use: every component is sized to last, season after season. All covered by a 2-year parts and labour warranty.
