Frequently asked questions

Discovering the eFoil

What is an eFoil and how does it work?

An eFoil is a board fitted with a foil (a submerged wing attached to a mast) and an electric motor. Above a certain speed, the wing lifts the board above the water: you glide with no drag, no noise, and no need for waves or wind. A wireless remote controls the power at your fingertips.

What is the difference between an eFoil and a regular foil?

A regular foil needs a wave, wind or a tow to move. The eFoil carries an electric motor under the board: you set off from flat water, wherever you want, whenever you want.

Do I need to know how to surf to ride an eFoil?

No. The motor provides the speed: no wave to catch, no paddling, no sail to manage. Surfers quickly find their bearings, and those who have never stood on a board progress just as fast.

Is the eFoil hard to learn?

No. All you need is to love the water and know how to swim. You start lying down, then kneeling, then standing. RIDE mode limits power to 30% for your first sessions, then you switch to PRO mode at full power, with smooth, progressive acceleration.

How long does it take to stand up?

Most riders are up on the foil within their first hour, especially on a stable board like the PWRFOIL CRUISER. Each session then brings more flow and confidence.

What is the minimum age and maximum weight to ride?

Minimum age: 15, under adult supervision. Rider weight: up to 120 kg on the largest board sizes. The foil kit must also suit your build: more volume and a larger wing for more lift. Feel free to ask our experts for advice.

Is the eFoil dangerous?

Like any water sport, eFoiling calls for a few simple rules: a helmet, a buoyancy vest, a clear area and respect for other water users. The PWRFOIL remote is worn with a wrist leash, and the PWRFOIL Drive System delivers progressive power, with no jolts. The risk of cuts is lower than with a traditional foil: the wings are less sharp and the weight of the motor keeps the wings deeper in the water. The propeller guard and the automatic trigger cut-off at every fall greatly reduce the risk of contact with the propeller.

Is an eFoil noisy? What is its environmental impact?

The PWRFOIL electric motor runs with no emissions or discharge into the water, and almost silently (20 dB). You enjoy the water without disturbing it, in harmony with other users and wildlife.

Frequently asked questions

Choosing your PWRFOIL

What makes up a PWRFOIL eFoil?

Four elements: the board, the PWRFOIL Drive System (mast, motor, propeller, wings), the PWRCELL® battery and the remote.

What is the difference between the CRUISER, the FLOW and the PRO?

All three share the same PWRFOIL Drive System, the same PWRCELL® battery and the same remote. Only the board changes:

  • CRUISER: inflatable and nomadic, to discover the sport and travel light.
  • FLOW: fibreglass, versatile on any body of water and in all conditions.
  • PRO: carbon, for performance, carving and waves.
Which eFoil should I choose to start?

The PWRFOIL CRUISER is designed for your first sessions: 120 litres of volume, reassuring stability and a forgiving inflatable construction. If you are aiming for fast progression towards more committed riding, the FLOW is also accessible from day one in its larger sizes.

Which board size should I choose for my build?

More volume means more stability and easier starts. Less volume means more responsiveness. Beginner or heavier rider: a large size. Experienced or lighter rider: a more compact size. Our team will advise you based on your weight, your level and your spot.

Which foil kit should I choose for my riding?

The larger the wing (1700), the more lift it gives at low speed: ideal for beginners and long cruises. The smaller it is (1300), the livelier and faster it is in turns. Every board comes with a kit matched to its profile, and other wings are available as accessories.

Can I switch boards and keep my foil, battery and remote?

Yes. The Drive System, the PWRCELL® and the remote are identical across the whole range. You can start on the CRUISER and add a FLOW or PRO board on its own the day your riding evolves.

Frequently asked questions

Battery and range

How long does an eFoil session last?

Depending on the PWRCELL® you choose, the conditions and your build: up to 60 minutes with the S, 90 minutes with the M and 120 minutes with the L.

Measured in a controlled environment: 75 kg rider, Performance 1300 wing, minimum speed, calm water.

Which PWRCELL® should I choose: S, M or L?

Three sizes, one power output: only the range changes.

  • PWRCELL® S: up to 60 min, 10 kg, for short sessions and a lighter setup.
  • PWRCELL® M: up to 90 min, 11 kg, the everyday balance.
  • PWRCELL® L: up to 120 min, 12 kg, for long offshore explorations.

A second battery doubles your time on the water.

How long does it take to recharge a battery?

It depends on the charger you choose: 5 A, 10 A or 20 A. With the 20 A charger, a PWRCELL® S recharges in just over an hour.

How long does an eFoil battery last?

A PWRCELL® retains more than 80% of its capacity after 600 charge cycles. Its built-in BMS manages cell balancing, temperature and overvoltage protection. Well maintained, it will stay with you for many seasons.

Can I fly with my battery?

No. Airlines limit lithium batteries carried by passengers to 160 Wh, and a PWRCELL® exceeds 1,000 Wh. To travel, plan for specialist shipping or rent on site. The CRUISER, on the other hand, travels easily in its bag.

How should I store my battery over winter?

Somewhere dry, at a moderate temperature, charged to around half capacity, with regular charge checks. The PWRFOIL manual details the full procedure.

Frequently asked questions

Riding and conditions

How fast can an eFoil go?

Up to 60 km/h depending on the board and the foil kit, but most sessions are ridden between 20 and 30 km/h. At that speed, the feeling of lift is already complete.

Can I ride at sea, on a lake or on a river?

Yes, wherever local regulations allow: sea, lake, wide river, lagoon. No need for wind or waves: any body of water becomes a playground.

What is the minimum water depth?

The PWRFOIL mast is 85 cm long: allow at least 1.20 m of water to ride safely. You start lying on the board, with the foil at the surface.

Can I ride in wind, chop or waves?

Yes. Once up on the foil, the board rides above the chop and stays smooth where a boat would slam. For your first sessions, choose calm water.

Can I surf waves on an eFoil?

Yes, and it is one of the most intense sensations. The FLOW and the PRO feature a surf-inspired tail kick to catch waves more easily. Once on the wave, you can even ease off the power and ride it like a surfer.

Frequently asked questions

Regulations and safety

Do I need a licence to ride an eFoil?

In France, recreational eFoiling generally does not require a boating licence. Regulations may vary depending on the body of water and the power of the craft: check with the relevant harbour office or prefecture. [TO BE VALIDATED]

Where am I allowed to ride?

At sea, speed is limited to 5 knots within the 300-metre coastal strip, and marked swimming areas are off-limits. On lakes and rivers, local bylaws may apply. Good practice: use the access channels and ride beyond the 300-metre strip. [TO BE VALIDATED]

What safety equipment is recommended?

A helmet, a buoyancy aid, a wetsuit suited to the water temperature, and the remote wrist leash on at all times. For your first sessions, ride with someone.

Do I need specific insurance?

Third-party liability insurance covering motorised water sports is strongly recommended. Check your current policy or contact your insurer. [TO BE VALIDATED]

Frequently asked questions

Transport and maintenance

How do I get an eFoil to the water, by car or by boat?

The battery comes out: you carry the board and the battery separately, and a wheeled bag system makes the trip to the water easier. The foil comes off the board in a few minutes. The CRUISER deflates and fits in a bag, a car boot or a boat locker. The FLOW and the PRO travel in their board bag. A full range of PWRFOIL bags is available.

What maintenance after each session?

Rinse the board, the foil and the propeller with fresh water, let them dry in the shade and check that all bolts are tight. Nothing more. The PWRFOIL manual details daily and seasonal maintenance.

Should I rinse my eFoil after a session at sea?

Yes, every time. Salt and sand are the enemies of any mechanism. A freshwater rinse protects the Drive System, the propeller and the connectors, season after season.

Where can I find spare parts?

Propeller, propeller guard, bolts, wings, stabilisers, remote: all parts are available on the PWRFOIL shop and from our after-sales service in France.

Product questions

PWRFOIL CRUISER

Is an inflatable board as stable and tough as a rigid board?

Yes. The CRUISER is built in high-pressure dropstitch (12 PSI): once inflated, it delivers outstanding rigidity and reassuring stability. It shrugs off pontoons, rocks and boat hulls: no repairs, no stress.

Is the CRUISER suitable if I have never tried eFoiling?

That is what it is made for. Its 120 litres of volume, across all sizes, provide a wide, stable platform for your first sessions. You progress with confidence, at your own pace.

How do I transport and store the CRUISER?

Deflate it, fold it, pack it in its bag. It fits in a car boot, a boat locker or a cupboard. The CRUISER goes wherever you go.

Which CRUISER size should I choose: 5'0, 5'4 or 5'8?

All three sizes offer the same 120-litre volume. The difference lies in length and width: the 5'0 is more manoeuvrable, the 5'8 more stable and more forgiving. For beginners, the 5'4 or the 5'8 are the most relaxed choices.

Can I move up to the FLOW or the PRO and keep my foil and battery?

Yes. The Drive System, PWRCELL® and remote are shared across the whole range. The day you want more performance, simply add a FLOW or PRO board on its own.

Product questions

PWRFOIL FLOW

What level is the FLOW for?

Everyone, from the motivated beginner to the experienced rider. The 5'8 (114 L) makes first sessions easier, the 4'4 (79 L) delivers real responsiveness. It is the board that grows with you.

What is the difference between the FLOW and the CRUISER?

The CRUISER is inflatable and nomadic, designed for discovery and travel. The FLOW is a rigid fibreglass board: more precise, livelier, closer to the feel of surfing. Motor, battery and remote are identical.

Can I surf waves with the FLOW?

Yes. Its surf-inspired tail kick makes it easier to catch waves, and the double concave in the nose allows touch & go. A wave at sunrise, a wild coastline, a lake: the FLOW follows wherever you want to go.

Which FLOW size should I choose: 4'4, 5'0 or 5'8?
  • 5'8 (114 L): stability and easy starts.
  • 5'0 (94 L): the all-rounder, for most riders.
  • 4'4 (79 L): for lighter or experienced riders looking for manoeuvrability.
Which foil kit should I choose on the FLOW: 1300, 1500 or 1700?
  • 1700 wing: lift at low speed, ideal for beginners and long cruises.
  • 1500 wing: the most versatile.
  • 1300 wing: livelier in turns, for speed and carving.

Product questions

PWRFOIL PRO

Is the PRO only for experienced riders?

The PRO reveals its full potential in the hands of an experienced rider. In its larger sizes (5'2 and 5'7), it remains accessible to a progressing rider who wants a board for the long term.

What does carbon construction bring to the ride?

Lightness and responsiveness. Carbon makes the board stiffer and lighter: every input is transmitted instantly to the foil, for sharper turns and immediate pumping.

Is the PRO made for carving and wave riding?

It is what it was made for. A heavily pinched tail for turns without catching, a slightly concave deck for comfort and control, a tail kick to catch waves: the PRO is shaped to link carve after carve.

Which PRO size should I choose for my build and level?

Four sizes, from 59 to 95 litres:

  • 5'7 (95 L) and 5'2 (82 L): stability and easy starts.
  • 4'6 (69 L) and 4'0 (59 L): for lighter or expert riders looking for maximum responsiveness.
Which foil kit should I choose on the PRO?

The PRO is the only model available with four kits. The most radical combines the 1300 wing, 190 stabiliser and 50 fuselage, for speed and pure carving. The 1700 wing delivers maximum lift for mellower sessions.
